stormysquirrel asked: everything in stocks and mutual funds is WAY down. Is this going to be another recession? Just because our wonderful government refuses to acknowledge reality (it took them 18 months to admit our country was in a recession despite news reports and common sense several years ago) doesn’t mean the public can’t acknowledge a recession. All it would take to make it 10x worse is another massive hurricane or terror attack. Let’s face it - we don’t have a good government right now that has any understanding of anything other than their own pocketbooks. should we take action now?

sputnik asked: I have to work on a business case wherein a large publicly-listed company (into beverage, food, and packaging) wants to diversify. It has been investing a lot in petroleum, electricity, and telecom. Do you know any other industries it can invest in?

billbahai asked: The “buy and hold” folks have for many years said that the stock market averages a 7% return annually, and to keep investing in a diversified portfolio of mutual funds representing stocks and some bonds. But many investors following this strategy lost 30 - 45% of their retirement portfolio value in the last six months as the recession pummeled both stock and bond values.
Should US investors be looking somewhere other than mutual funds to grow their retirement savings?

Dave B asked: I have some CD’s that are coming due and I want to invest some. I am a strong believer that the market is now undervalued and that the upside potential is much higher than the downside potential. Are there mutual funds that invest in call options? I want to invest most of the money in regular mutual funds, but I am interested in putting a portion in something more leveraged.
