I think Dom is kind of selfish, myself. I think we're headed into something pretty bad, and it will be world-wide. It's compounded by the gas and oil crisis (although, it is strange that if it's such a crisis, the prices can "magically" go down so dramatically).

We have been living on the credit as a nation, and as a people for too long, and if you have debts, you could be in serious trouble. Banks are going to be pickier about paying those debts, and who they loan money to. As businesses fail, people are going to hold even tighter to their money. And, as businesses fail, the consumer will have less choice available. Of course, if *their* business fails, the consumer will not have a paycheck to spend.

Just hunker down and do what you can. Don't waste your money on frivolous things, but invest in a well-stocked pantry, really good quality clothes and furnishings, and a great source of cheap entertainment (playing cards, board games, an iPod might be a good purchase, too, or even an iPhone -- even if you can't pay the phone bill, you can still use the functions.). Oh, and make sure your computer is in good shape, too.

The Great Depression lasted about 12 years.

Depressions are rare... I don't think we will go into a depression, once the taxes are lowered, lots of people will be spending, that will help the economy... I don't think people realize, SPENDING HELPS THE ECONOMY, like damn...

I don't get why everyone is so afraid of going into a recession. I love the recession and if you are responsible, so should you. I am in the United States, got a college degree in Accounting, and didn't buy a house yet because I can't pay for it if I lost my job. That is called responsibility.

Besides my stocks declining, everything is great. Gas was once $4.50 a gallon and now it is $1.89. Christmas is awesome because since companies are struggling, I expect huge discounts everywhere. With the recession, hopefully prices will fall everywhere. It is great!

Canada is a major trading partner with the US so Canada will be affected. Actually the world is tied to the US economy so everyone will "suffer". With the government trying to help when they should just let everything fail, I think a turn around will take 7 years. If the government stayed out and let the irresponsible companies fail, this would be done in 3 years.

We won't ever see a depression again. Just some recession.
